By Beryl Dalton

If you have a passion for film, making sure that you pursue this passion and not give out in this dream is very important. All too many times, people have these aspirations that they were hoping to achieve, yet they do not seem to have the necessary motivation to push them forward and to take the next steps to get it achieved. Faltering along the way is part of the process, but succeeding is never possible unless you try.

A number of directors these days are trying their best to come up with really good materials that would be worthy of the big screen. Aspiring film makers like Tony Kern have been around to make it possible for their ideas to be successfully translated to the public. This Singapore-based American director is also a film producer, a screenwriter, as well as a very accomplished motion picture artist.

Kern attended Gibsonburg High school when he was still in Ohio, United States. He was born in 1969. He then continued to attend Bowling Green State University and graduated from there. His exposure to the film world began when he was in Northwester University. From the years 1996 to 2002, he was a film editor which made his passion for the film industry even more cemented in the process.

He worked as a producer and an editor for AOL-Time Warner in the years 2003-2005. This was prior to the time that he set up his own film production company. Later own, he was able to establish the fir m known as Mythopolis Pictures. This was in partnership with the Singaporean television news presenter Genevieve Woo. He owns a stock-footage firm, TK Time Lapse.

The first film that he directed was released in August 2008. Called A Month of Hungry Ghosts, it was able to earn the Best Film Nomination. This was entered for the Singapore Film Awards at the 22nd Singapore International Film Festival. Later in 2011, he released the second film, Afterimages, co-produced by Genevieve Woo. This horror film was a compendium of five shorts.

The second film that he successfully directed, Afterimages, was successfully funded through crowd sourcing, as well as crowd funding. It is to be noted though that is was able to secure the Media Development Authority production assistance grant. In the Network of Asian Fantastic Films, an awards competition that took place in Busan, South Korea, the film's script bagged the award.

Through these accomplishments, one can truly say that there is still so much raw talent out there. There are still a lot of filmmakers who make films not only for the sake of profit, but of actually being able to tell a good story. These are people who are really invested on making something that they know their viewers will truly enjoy and appreciate, despite the risks that they have to take.

For aspiring filmmakers, it matters that they will have the right resources to utilize to get their ideas realized. Still, having the right materials and the right ideas behind these resources would matter big time. Regardless of whether or not you have the tools to come up with films that are good, at the end of the day, it is the content of the film that you are putting out there that would really matter more.
